How the Florida Apostille Process Works
Identify the Document Type
Start with the destination country and document origin. Private documents may need notarization. Birth, death, marriage, and court records generally require the correct official certified copy, not a notary-certified photocopy.
Submit to Florida Department of State
Eligible Florida documents are submitted to the Florida Department of State with its request form, required fee, and return arrangements. Follow the current state instructions for your document type.
Apostille is Attached
The state checks the relevant official signature or notarial authority and, if the request qualifies, issues the apostille or other applicable certification.
Confirm the Recipient’s Requirements
An apostille does not certify a document’s contents or guarantee acceptance. Ask the receiving organization about translations, document age, and any additional requirements.

Apostille FAQ

Processing times change. Check the Florida Department of State’s current processing dates and allow time for mailing and corrections. We do not guarantee a state processing or delivery date.
The issuing jurisdiction matters. An out-of-state public record generally goes to that state’s competent authority; federal records may require U.S. Department of State authentication. Notarizing a separate affidavit does not change the origin of the underlying record.
Confirm the state’s submission format and the foreign recipient’s requirements before choosing RON for an apostille-bound document. An electronic notarization may require additional steps to produce an acceptable submission.
